In the 1820's a
group of American Artists inspired by the writings of Henry David
Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson began painting the New York's
Hudson River Valley landscapes and the surrounding Catskill mountain
area with skillful attention to detail, handling of light and
atmospheric effects, and a profusion of leaves and branches
