He worked in an insurance office and atTended evening classes at the Lambeth School of Art. Working as a magazine illustrator his reputation as a book illustrator grew especially with Grims's Fairy Tales of 1900. He collaborated with JM Barrie on Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens and his watercolor landscapes were exhibited at the Royal Academy.

Notable examples of his work include:
The Widow Whitgift and her sons:   Victoria and Albert Museum
The Serpentine is a lovely Lake and there is a drowned forest at the bottom of it:
