Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest university art museum in the western hemisphere with a collection of over 80,000 objects dating from ancient Egypt to the present day: - early Italian paintings, art of van Gogh, Manet, Monet and Picasso and American artists from Copley to Pollock plus the renowned Garvan collection of American decorative arts.. *
The Art Gallery was founded in 1832 long before Yale became a world class university and its collection received masterpieces from many distinguished and wealthy alumni.   In the begiinning the Yale owned about 100 paintings- now more than 80,000.
