Born in 1958 in Lajatico, Tuscany, Bocelli was blinded aged 12 in a football accident. In 1985 he graduated in Law from the University of Pisa, played piano in nightclubs,, and in 1993 took singing lessons with tenor Franco Corelli. In 1994 he won the San Remo Music Festival, and his debut album was released.
