Ingres studied with Jacques-Louis David in Paris. He earned his living painting portraits, often distorting shapes. He became a leading figure of French Neoclassicism, his nude art showing Degas's influence, and won the Prix de RA member of the Symbolist movement and his paintings were often inspired by visions.
