Beatrice Potter
was born in 1866 and brought up in a strict Victorian environment with few friends. A shy child
her life revolved around her imaginations and the animals she kept in her nursery. She wrote
Peter Rabbit at the age of 36 and printed it privately with the help of her brother, After this her
 books were published by Frederick Warne and later became engaged to the youngest Warne
brother, Norman. He died before they became married, she continued living with her parents until
buying a farm in the Lake District with the money she made from her books. Later when nearly 50
she married a Lake District lawyer and became totally absorbed in her new life as a sheep farmer..
