CONCERT BANDS

The 1920's brought large jazz bands, those of Paul Whiteman and Fletcher being the first of the early dance bands. Band Leaders of note included Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie. John Phillip Sousa was a bandmaster of the US Marine Corps Band who formed his own band which become famous worldwide and composed 136 marches which included the Starts and Stripes Forever.
