RICHARD AVEDON
1923-
Avedon left school at age 17 to work as an errand-boy for a small photographic business, serving in the Photography Department of the US Merchant Marines between 1942 and 1944. He was staff photographer for Harpers Bazaar from 1945 until 1965 when he went to Vogue, his fashion photography in the postwar years had a great influence on fashion photography . A taste for highly contrived lighting, pose, and camera angles in his fashion photography, and in his portraits using eye-catching props and placing sitters against a flat monochromatic backdrop. .
