Robert Doisneau
1912-1994
The French Photographer Doisneau was born in Gentilly, Val-de-Marne on april 14 1912, and was noted for his depictions of Paris street life. One of his most renouned pictures is Le baiser de l'hotel de ville - a photo of Francoise Bornet and Jacques Carteaud kissing in the street in Paris, taken in 1950. He died in Montrouge in 1994.
Paris, 1950 DOISSNEAU Francoise Bornet a former actress claims that she was the woman in this photo - the original of which she sold for $A259,000 at auction. Doisneau was working on a photo series about lovers in Paris for LIFE and had approached Ms Bornet and an old flame asking them to pose. The photo appeared in LIFE later.
