Toshio Takahashi Japan
Moved by a record of Moyse at age 19, Takahashi started teaching himself flute. In one year, he played Doppler'' Hungarian Pastoral Fantasy and Mozart'' flute concertos, began performing both as a member of the Ensemble Sonare and as a soloist. At age 25 he began a 3 year study of musical expression with Shinichi Suzuki, and at age 28 left for 3 years of study in the USA with Marcel Moyse, William Kincaid, William Primrose, and Pablo Casals. He toured the US and made recordings in New York. Returning to Japan he founded the Suzuki Flute School at Dr Suzuki's request. At present the flute method embraces 200 instructors and 5000 students throughout the world.. Toshio is the principal instructor at the Talent Education Music School, the Chairman of the ISA and a Conductor
Rebecca Paluzzi USA
Rebecca Paluzzi is a registered Teacher Trainer in the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the European Suzuki Association. She has taught Suzuki courses for teachers in Japan, Canada, Germany, Finland, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. Rebecca is the founder of the East Tennessee Suzuki Flute Institute International, and Director of the Suzuki School of Music in Tennessee. She holds BM and MM in performance and was the first non-japanese flutist to receive a diploma from the Talent Education Institute School of Music in Matsumoto, Japan, where she studied with Takahashi. She is on the faculty of East Tennessee State University and is principal flutist of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra.
David Gerry Canada
David Gerry received his musical training at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music, where he was awarded the gold medal in flute. He received the MacMillan Memorial Prize for distinguished service to Canadian music, enabling him to study with Toshio Takahashi and graduate from the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto. He also writes the flute column for the American Suzuki Journal, and maintains an active performing schedule. He tours extensively in the USA and Canada as a soloist, both in recital and with orchestra. Principal flautist with the Hamilton Symphony Orchestra, he teaches flute at University as well as in his Suzuki studio. He has taught at many Institutes, including the International Flute Institute in Tennessee, and is a Registered Teacher Trainer for the SAA.
Sarah Murray UK
Sarah Murray studied at Trinity College of Music in London, gaining a Fellowship, a Graduate Degree and Licentiate flute teaching diploma, and the Gertrude Norman Prize for Musianship. She won scholarships to study with Severino Gazzelloni, and Toshio Takahashi, and graduate from the Talent Education Institute, Matsumoto Japan in 1986. She serves as flute specialist for the County Music Service in UK and has been appointed a Teacher Trainer for the European Suzuki Association and the Suzuki Association of the Americas, leading courses in Europe and USA. Sarah served as the Flute programme Co-ordinator for the SUZUKI World Conference in Dublin, Ireland in 1995.
Pandora Bryce Canada
Pandora is a lecturer at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and is active as a masterclass teacher in Canada and the United States. Recent performances include the concertos of Canadian composers Jaques Hetu and Michael Conway Baker, concerts with the interdisciplinary ensemble Ardeleana, and several recordings including an all-Beethoven CD. She has a Master of Music degree in Performance, and was awarded the Gold Medal for achieving the highest marks in the country in the Royal Conservatory of Music's Associateship Diploma. Pandora is one of 6 Suzuki Teacher Trainers in the USA and Canada and has travelled extensively lecturing in Canada, the USA, New Zealand and Australia. Pandora is at present completing her Ph.D.
MELBOURNE
JULIA BREEN was the first Victorian SUZUKI flute teacher, and teaches both SUZUKI flute and piano, having advanced accreditation for both instruments.
In 1981 Julia spent two months in Matsumoto studying flute with Toshio Takahashi. She has also worked with Takahashi and Rebecca Paluzzi in Berlin, Tennessee, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
Under her guidance Melbourne has become an active centre of SUZUKI flute, with a large number of teachers and students and a full programme of activities, concerts and workshops. Her flute and piano students have won numerous prizes in competitions and a number have graduated A MUS A and L MUS A , and completed SUZUKI teacher training.
Julia was president of the Victorian SUZUKI Association from 1989-1993.

GRADUATION
Graduation is not compulsory, and is not an examination - every child succeeds. Teachers present students only when they are certain that the performances are secure and musical, and that the student is studying beyond that particular level. To graduate is to achieve recognition for having reached a certain milestone in the ongoing process of musical education. Graduation pieces may be taped or presented live. Qualified teachers listen to graduations and write positive and helpful reports. Beautiful certificates edged in gold come from Japan and are presented to students at the annual Graduation Concert. Teachers also graduate at various levels and receive their certificates at this concert.
