Diego de Silva VELAZQUEZ

1590-1660


 

 

Born in Seville he became Court Painter for the Court of Madrid. The King, Phillip declared that only Velasquez should paint his portrait. His style changed considerably later after he traveled in Italy and absorbed the influence of the Venetian masters.
